Elmina Sharks staged a comeback to beat AshantiGold 2-1 in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 22 tie on Sunday.
The first half produced no goal at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
But midfielder David Abagna shot the visiting Miners into a deserved lead five minutes after recess.
Poor judgement saw Sammed Mohammed concede a foul when he brought down Benjamin Bernard Boateng and the resulting set-piece allowed Elmina Sharks to claw their way back into the game.
A well-taken Suraj Ibrahim free-kick was met by a perfect header from captain Ishmael Hammond to put Sharks level in the 69th minute.
Elmina Sharks snatched the 2-1 win thanks to yet another headed goal – this time by new boy Kingsley Brayie – in the 77th minute.
Now on 27 points and in 12th position, Elmina Sharks close the gap with 9th-placed AshantiGold to three after 22 matches.
