Amed Touré nets brace but receives red card as Medeama down Dreams

Both sides finished with 10 men

Amed Touré bagged a brace but was later sent off for deliberately trying to score with the hand as Medeama beat Dreams FC 2-0 in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League match-day 19 clash at Akoon Park Sunday.

The Burkinabe international striker scored in either half before receiving his marching orders from referee Alfaa Ba-Addey in the 78th minute.

Dreams were chasing the opener before Medeama caught them on a counter-attack after a corner kick was wasted. Justice Blay then let fly a low grounder towards Touré who completed the swift attack in the 14th minute.

Just before the break, referee Ba-Addey dished out his first red card of the day to Dreams FC winger Mohammed Sulemana following a poor tackle on Zakaria Mumuni.

The Yellow and Mauve – who were in search of a first victory under new boss Yaw Preko – went into the break with the 1-0 lead.

The second half had Touré cushioning the lead for Medeama in the 67th minute after winger Mumuni sent a free-kick into the Dreams box which they failed to clear.

But Touré got sent off for a second yellow card offence after attempting to recreate Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ goal in the 78th minute.

Dreams FC had an opportunity to get a late consolation goal via the spot but serial scorer Joseph Esso uncharacteristically skied the penalty. Esso thus missed the chance to tie on 12 goals with Karela’s Diawisie Taylor in the top scorers’ race.

The 2-0 victory takes Medeama three points above Dreams FC and into 5th spot with 30 points after 19 matches.
