U-20 Afcon: Ghana poised to outdo Cameroon – Zito

Ghana coach Abdul Karim Zito says his outfit is prepared for Thursday’s epic clash with Cameroon in the last-8 of the ongoing 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament in Mauritania.

The Black Satellites will be battling for a slot to the semifinals against the Young Indomitable Lions at the Stade Olympique in Nouakchott.

Ahead of the game, Zito speaks optimism about Ghana’s chances of going past a quality opposition in the Cameroonians.

“Cameroon is a football nation just as we are. Our games are unpredictable. We are going in to win.

“We will do a lot of amendments to our game and ensure that we win the game,” the gaffer told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

“Football has its dos and don’ts and there are factors that affect performance.

“The weather affected us because we had little time to acclimatize. But despite all factors, we are poised to qualify.”

The game will be Ghana’s first at the Stade Olympique, Cameroon’s grounds throughout the group stages.

But Zito believes that would not change their plans.

“They may be comfortable because they have played all their games here but we are here to play football and to secure a win.

“Even Mauritania has been here as hosts but they were eliminated. So we are focused on qualifying.”

Ghana qualified on the best third-placed teams’ ticket with four points after losing to Gambia 2-1 in the last group games.
