Black Starlets to face Morocco U-17s in Feb. 8 and 11 friendlies

Ghana’s male Under-17s, the Black Starlets, are off to Morocco for a six-day training and development program.

Coach Ben Fokuo’s side will engage in two friendly games against their Moroccan counterparts who, it is understood, proposed to sponsor and host this visit.

The two games will come off Monday, February 8 and then on Thursday, February 11, 2021, before returning to Accra next Saturday.

Morocco will use the friendlies as part of preparations for their participation in the 2021 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) on home soil later in July. The North Africans recently hosted Senegal in similar back-to-back test games in January.

22 players formed part of a 36-man contingent that departed KIA Saturday dawn.

For Ghana, who failed to qualify for the U-17 Afcon through the Wafu-B Under-17 Cup of Nations held in Togo, this is an opportunity to enhance the development plan for the Starlets team.

“Coach of the side, Ben Fokuo will use the matches to prepare players especially the younger ones who are eligible to play for the U-17 next year.

“It is also refreshing to mention that some U-15 players have been selected to play with their colleagues in the U-17 to prepare them ahead for the 2023 Wafu U-17 Cup of Nations.

That gives the development of the team two different outlooks, thus now and future,” read portions of a publication on the Ghana FA website.

The 36-man Black Starlets contingent is expected to touch down Casablanca by mid-day Saturday before embarking on a road trip to Rabat.  The team will base at Annakhil Hotel in the Moroccan capital.
