#GPLwk10: Kotoko beaten by Aduana at home

Porcupines consigned to their second defeat and miss out on the chance to go top.

Aduana Stars, for the first time in their Ghana Premier League meetings, travelled to beat Asante Kotoko at home with a winner from Samuel Bioh Sunday night.

It’s the Porcupine Warriors’ second home defeat in the ongoing 2020/21 league campaign and it ended their home invincibility against the Fire rivals.

Kwame Opoku came close to delivering an early opener when he was picked out by Fabio Gama. The striker appealed for a penalty after a challenge from goalkeeper Joseph Addo but referee Emmanuel Tampuri would not fall for the call.

Kotoko were forced into an early substitution as Patrick Asmah came off injured in the 11th minute.

His replacement Emmanuel Gyamfi brought some life into the game causing the Aduana backline some havoc but Kotoko failed to take anything from the opportunities created.

While Kotoko dominated possession, Aduana threatened a few times with right-back Isaac Kwain unleashing a couple of ferocious strikes from distance.

Another one, this time a left-foot effort from Sam Adams, saw Razak Abalora failing to catch the ball properly before getting it right after a Yahaya Mohammed close-range rebound.

Brazilian Gama came close to scoring on two occasions in the first half but his final efforts denied him as the ball narrowly missed the target.

Kotoko kept on with the pressure in the second half but Gama failed to convert from close range after a penalty box scramble in the 59th minute.

The scramble saw Kotoko’s make-shift holding midfielder Habib Mohammed pick up a dislocated shoulder injury. That forced him later making way for Mudasiru Salifu after playing through the pain barrier for some time.

Aduana, meanwhile, had introduced diminutive attacker Samuel Bioh who won them the points in this fixture at home in the truncated 2019/20 GPL.

In the 74th minute, Fataw Abdulrahman led an Aduana attack on the left and flighted a cross into the Kotoko box which got blocked by Mubarik Yussif but the ball fell in place for Bioh to strike perfectly into the rooftop. Deadlock broken.

Aduana Stars held on to the lead for a famous win against Kotoko – their first on the road this campaign. And that shoots them to fourth place while Kotoko, who missed out on the chance to go top, sit just behind at 5th position. Both teams, however, tie on 16 points.
