Late goals galore as Sharks edge Bechem in thriller

The two sides traded stoppage-time penalties.

An injury-time penalty from Ishmael Hammond earned Elmina Sharks a dramatic 2-1 victory over Bechem United Sunday afternoon.

The was little to differentiate the two sides in the keenly contested 2020/21 Ghana Premier League match-day 10 fixture at Nduom Stadium.

The game stayed barren until the last five minutes when the hosts broke the deadlock through Tahir Musah.

The lead would be short-lived as Bechem remained dangerous in attack and won a penalty which got converted by skipper Moro Salifu right into additional time.

But Sharks soon got a penalty of their own, four minutes inside stoppage time which got heavily contested by the Hunters who momentarily staged a walk off the pitch in protest.

Referee Wiseman Ghansah stuck to his penalty decision and after tempers were calmed, Ishmael Hammond stepped up and expertly converted from the spot, what would be the match-winning goal.

The 2-1 victory moves Elmina Sharks up to 10th place on 14 points while Bechem are now in 6th position with 16 points after 10 games.
