#GPLwk9: 10-man Dwarfs take full points at Liberty

Ebusua Dwarfs came from behind to hand Liberty Professionals their first home defeat, beating them 2-1 on match-day 9 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Saturday afternoon.

The Scientific Soccer lads had hoped to bounce back from Monday’s defeat to Asante Kotoko but the hungrier visiting Dwarfs ensured they won for the second time (after Legon Cities) in Accra this season at the Carl Reindorf Park.

After 17 minutes Liberty were given the chance to take the lead from the spot. A cross from Ernest Danso struck an outstretched arm of centre-back Godwin Adikah, with referee Maxwell Owusu pointing for a penalty.

Teen sensation Abraham Wayo took on the responsibility, and he left goalkeeper Razak Issah with no chance by hitting the ball down the middle with a measured finish.

Dwarfs worked hard for a comeback and their reward came in the 38th minute. Michael Asamoah was left unmarked from a Simon Martey free-kick from the right and the central midfielder headed it in. 1-1.

The Crabs nearly got the lead three minutes on when skipper Dennis Korsah pounced on a loose ball after Liberty defenders hesitated clearing the ball and went past three markers into the box but his final effort at goal. went over the bar.

Liberty were slightly the better side in the second half of what turned into a pretty even match with both sides spawning good chances in their bid to take the three points.

Dwarfs were denied by the crossbar in the 55th minute.

Two minutes on, goalkeeper Razak Issah pulled off a nice save to deny the Scientific Soccer lads from going ahead with a free-kick.

Wayo subsequently had two free-kick opportunities but his efforts on both occasions slightly missed the target.

While soaking in the pressure, Dwarfs freed themselves for the match-winner when a long hit from keeper Issah found Moro Sumaila who fired home from inside the box with a second touch in the 83rd minute.

A straight red card for Simon Martey ensued two minutes later after a not-dangerous challenge on his marker.

Ebusua Dwarfs fought gallantly with 10 men for the rest of the game and ensured victory. They now increase their points tally to 14 with a game in hand while Liberty stay on 10 from 9 matches.

Dennis Korsah was named NASCO man-of-the-match.
