Convince us more – GFA reply Kotoko over GPL home switch request

Asante Kotoko been asked to provide concrete reasons for their request to relocate from Accra to the Alu Mahama Stadium in Tamale for their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League home matches until their traditional Kumasi grounds is ready.

The Porcupine Warriors had chosen to play their home games at the Accra Sports Stadium since last season and even affirmed same for the ongoing campaign due to the renovation of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

But on November 27, Kotoko wrote to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) requesting to change their home venue to Tamale.

According to the club, there is a lot of pressure and congestion due to the number of clubs who play their home games at the Accra Sports Stadium.

However, the GFA in a response to the club indicated that the number of games being played at the stadium did not have any negative effect on the facility.

Here is a copy of the GFA’s response to Kotoko:

Communications Manager Moses Antwi Benefo says the club will revert to the GFA at the right time as they are currently preparing to host Mauritanian side FC Nouadhibou in a 2020/21 Caf Champions League preliminary round decider in Accra on Saturday.

“The communique we had from the FA today is that the information they had from the Club Licensing Board indicates that there was no negative effect to the Accra facility.

“And if we still maintain that we want to move to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, we should give them the reason why we want to embark on that journey.

“We would respond to that letter in due time,” he told Citi FM.

Asante Kotoko have so far hosted one game – a 1-1 draw with Eleven Wonders – at the Accra Sports Stadium in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.
