Sudan vs Ghana: Schlupp, Ashimeru boost Stars squad

Ghana have been boosted by the arrival of Europe-based duo  – Jeffrey Schlupp and Majeed Ashimeru – ahead of next Tuesday’s visit to Sudan in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

Schlupp, who features for Crystal Palace in the Premier League, could not arrive in camp early enough to make him available for the Black Stars’ 2-0 win over the Falcons of Jediane at Cape Coast Stadium last Thursday.

On the other hand, Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Majeed Ashimeru was initially blocked from travelling to honour international call after the club detected some COVID-19 cases during a routine test last week. The club subsequently gave the former WAFA man the green light to join his national team camp after further tests which turned negative.

The availability of Schlupp and Ashimeru now give head coach CK Akonnor options as he targets preserving the Black Stars’ 100% win record in Group C of the Cameroon 2021 qualifying.

Ghana have won all three games so far – beating South Africa 2-0 at home, 1-0 away to Sao Tome and then a 2-0 win in the first of a double confrontation with Sudan last Thursday.

Also expected in camp tonight is Jiangsu Sunning midfielder Mubarak Wakaso.

Ghana play guests to on Sudan on Tuesday, November 17 at the Al-Hilal Stadium in Omdurman, Khartoum.
