I cannot be blamed for Kotoko’s first goal – Medeama’s Sai

Medeama SC goalkeeper has rebutted talks that he was the cause of the first goal Asante Kotoko scored against his side in their Match day 3 fixture of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.

The former Black Satellites shot-stopper says he can’t be fingered for the howler that Bennett Ofori captalised on to record the first goal of the match after failing to deal with a back pass from Paul Aidoo.

Speaking after the game, the goalkeeper felt Kotoko were poor on the day and did not merit any point from Sunday’s game but their own defensive frailties gifted the Porcupines a drawn game. He trusts they were unlucky in their 0-2 loss to Hearts of Oak in the week 2 fixture despite their excellent performance.

“Kotoko didn’t do anything extraordinary with their play. They scored by virtue of our own mistakes.

“We knew we were going to beat them even before kickoff no matter what. We did our best against Hearts, we played well throughout the 90minutes but luck eluded us and they won,” Michael Sai said.

Are you to be blamed for the first goal?

“Oh it wasn’t my fault. Considering the first goal, I was given a poor back pass to my weaker foot a little above my knee which I failed to control which caused the goal,” answered the goalkeeper.

The newcomer for the Yellow and Mauves kept post in the absence of captain and regular goalkeeper, Mozart Adjetey struggled with his positioning in post throughout the game and it resulted in the second goal after Moses Sarpong’s clearance ricocheted off Michael Yeboah into the net.

“I appeal to the fans to continue supporting us because this is my first match for the team. I came to win here with Berekum Chelsea by 3-0 last season and today it’s a draw. We had a lot to deliver for the club,” Sai added.

Medeama SC have recorded a point from 3 matches in the Ghana Premier League, salvaged from the 2-2 draw with Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
