Coach Sarpong satisfied with Dwarfs performance

Coach of Ebusua Dwarfs, J.E Sarpong says ‘motivation and determination’ played a key role in his side’s home draw with Accra Hearts of Oak in the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The experienced technical handler expressed satisfaction after supervising his side’s impressive display against the in-form Phobians in a game which produced no goal – their first point picked in three matches of the season.

“Most coaches, say they [players] played to my instruction, others also say they didn’t play to my instruction when they lose. The fact is that the players were motivated and determined to deliver and not that they play to my instruction.

“This is an improved game from the match played at Obuasi and if we had played just a quarter of today’s performance at Obuasi, we could have salvaged a point. The season is a long way ahead and I still have hope we can prove ourselves,” he said.

“In football, I know that when you get a drawn game after recording consecutive losses, it means wins are the next likely results,” coach Sarpong added.

The head coach of the Cape Coast club, who threatened to quit duty if he had lost the game to Hearts over suspicion of player sabotage, is still at post. He also admitted goal scoring as a problem and that the return of the strikers from injury will solve the problem.

“Goal scoring has been the team’s problem this season. We couldn’t lay hands on some three strikers who are still in camp nursing some injuries in camp, and these injuries have had an effect on our display in the two games.

“Hopefully with some of them recovering from injury we expect to do well in our upcoming games when they join us,” Sarpong stated.

Dwarfs, after their goalless draw to Hearts at the Robert Mensah Sports Stadium, now lie 13th on the log with just a point.
