Pre-season: Olympics beat 10-man Liberty

Great Olympics put up an exciting performance to beat 10-man Liberty Professionals 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at Carl Reindorf Park on Sunday.

With just eight minutes played in the first half, the “Dade” boys shot their noses in front through Maxwell Abbey.

Olympics showed glimpses of putting up a good show next season after holding their own against the Scientific Soccer Lads.

Liberty Professionals were dealt a blow in the 38th minute when tricky winger Abraham Wayo was given a straight red card after an off the ball incident

It ended 1-0 for the visitors moving into the break.

Olympics returned for the second half more energized which resulted in a goal with just two minutes played.

Bulky striker Mannan Mudasiru latched on to a pass from the left side of attack and backheeled behind Kofi Baah who was in goal for Liberty to make it 2-0.

Liberty pulled a goal back after Degraft Amponsah slotted home from the penalty spot in the 50th minute.

Olympics nearly increased the tally in the 64th minute but Kofi Baah parried Samuel Ashie’s effort to save the situation for Liberty.

The visitors were up again to lead with captain Gladson Awako sweeping in a free-kick which was pushed away by Kofi Baah.

It ended 2-1 for Great Olympics who looked more composed than Liberty Professionals.

The 2020/21 Ghana Premier League starts on November 14 with Liberty at home to Bechem United while Olympics travel to Medeama.
