After months of back and forths, Legon Cities have finally secured the services of long-standing target Elvis Opoku from Aduana Stars on transfer deadline day.
The nouveau-riche Royals have been in the pursuit of the top defensive midfielder since the second transfer window of the 2019/20 season which was aborted due to COVID-19.
Aduana had insisted on keeping their long-serving player who grew to become the team’s captain.
But Footy-Ghana.com understands that after some high-level talks involving the club’s owner Saturday, Cities bid to sign Opoku received a seal of approval.
Elvis Opoku, who joined Aduana Stars from Division One side Bibiani Gold Stars following an outstanding performance in the 2013/14 MTN FA Cup competition, had a full year left on his second contract.
Sources indicate the 27-year-old was yearning for a fresh challenge after a six-year stay and his wish has been granted on deadline day.
Elvis Opoku joins the new-look Legon Cities squad which has been augmented with Ghana’s all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan, Matthew Anim Cudjoe, Foster Braimah, Baba Mahama, Michael Ampadu, David Cudjoe, Jonah Attuquaye and Vincent Adu Gyamfi.
