Former AshantiGold forward Shafiu Mumuni has reportedly sealed a free agent agreement with Tunisian side US Monastir.
The 25-year-old, per Infosport Tunisia, is signing a two-year contract.
US Monastir recently lost their two Nigerian attackers – Moses Orkuma and Anthony Okpoto – to clubs in Qatar. The latter, Okpoto, was the top scorer of the Tunisian topflight with 13 goals in the just-ended 2019/20 season.
Shafiu recently left AshantiGold and had been heavily linked to Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko. But the 25-year-old always had his sights set on a move abroad.
He trained with Romanian side CFR Cluj but could not secure a deal before COVID-19 set in.
Recently, his manager, Ebo Kwaitoo, claimed rejecting offers from clubs like Yanga SC (Tanzania) and South Africa’s Baroka FC while a deal with Apollon Smirnis FC in the Greek Super League a fortnight ago was made impossible due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
Once the formalities are cleared Shaifu Mummuni will become the sixth signing of US Monastir ahead of the 2020/21 Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 which kicks off Saturday, November 7.
