Kofi Kordzi: Qatari side Muaither SC want Hearts striker for $150,000

Qatari Premier League side, Muaither Sports Club have lodged a bid to sign burly Hearts of Oak striker Kofi Kordzi.

The Doha-based club, through a Ghanaian intermediary – Abdul Ganiyu Zakaria – have offered the Phobians $150,000 and 20% onward transfer fees for the 25-year-old.

After a meeting with the intermediary, Hearts made a counteroffer demanding Muaither SC up their offer.

Hearts MD Fred Moore, in a letter early last month, tabled two proposals: a 200,000 transfer fee plus 20% on any future sale or a 10% upward adjustment to the onward transfer allocation Muaither SC initially proposed.

While Hearts were looking to close a deal, Muaither SC interestingly went behind the Ghanaian giants to invite the player to travel to Doha on Saturday, September 5.

The Phobians, after discovering the development are insisting the agreement is sealed before the player even travels as allowing the reverse to happen potentially weakens the club’s bargaining power.

Muaither Sports Club’s invitation letter asked Kordzi to travel for a mandatory “medical examination” and as well checks on his physical and technical fitness.”

The club said once Kordzi passes, the two parties would then negotiate a contract for the 2020/21 season.

Kofi Kordzi joined Hearts of Oak from lower-tier side Royal FC on a three-year deal in 2019. He is thus contracted to the Phobians until 2022.

With six goals in 14 games, Kordzi was the club’s top scorer before the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League got cancelled due to COVID-19.
