Seven COVID-19 cases recorded in Maidens, Princesses camp

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that seven positive cases were recorded after two female national teams – the Black Maidens (U-17) and Black Princesses (U-20) – underwent COVID-19 tests.

The two sides, last week, recovened at Cape Coast for preparations towards their respective Fifa Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

“Yes it is true but there are no worries because the players are fine.

“They are currently in isolation and we await the final report after their mandatory quarantine,” GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum told Asempa FM.

The Black Princesses’ first-round qualifier against Guinea-Bissau has been postponed by Caf due to COVID-19 induced travel restrictions across the African continent. The U-20s were expected to play the first leg in Guinea-Bissau on September 4.

For the Maidens, who are set to battle Nigeria in the final round of the 2021 Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup, Caf is yet to make any statement on their October schedule.
