Rennes and Atletico Madrid lead race for Ghana’s Mohammed Salisu

Stade Rennes have reportedly moved ahead of Atletico Madrid in the race to acquire the services of promising Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu from Real Valladolid.

The Ligue 1 side are willing to pay the defender’s buyout clause of 12 million euros and hope to tempt him to the club before Los Colchoneros can make their own move.

According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Salisu’s move to Rennes is as good as done and that he will play in Ligue 1 from the 2020/21 season onwards.

Stade Rennes offers the player guaranteed Champions League football, having been placed third in Ligue 1 when the season was brought to a premature end.

Atletico Madrid are currently outside the Champions League qualification places and can’t offer any guarantees to potential transfer targets.

Real Valladolid has been made aware in recent weeks that Salisusees his future away from the club, but his attitude has been described as exemplary as he wants to show respect to the club which gave him a chance in Spain.

Atleti’s last conversation with Real Valladolid had them willing to go to 11 million euros, however, there isn’t any interest from Premier League clubs.
