GPL: Isaac Mensah eyes first ever Hearts goal

Isaac Mensah says assisting his teammates comes ahead of his personal ambitions, but admits he wants to score in the league this season.

The precocious Hearts star has never scored a league goal in three seasons with the club, and though he has goals in the CAF Confederation Cup, Ghana FA Cup and Elite Cup.

Mensah believes he can end that unhappy run in the league.

“I know [smiles] that I have never scored in the Ghana Premier League but I am not too much worried about that,” Mensah told the club’s website.

“What I worry about is my total output for the team. I have given a lot of assists and my game is more to create goal scoring opportunities for my teammates than me actually finishing off moves.

“Honestly, I will like to get the weight of not ever scoring in the league off my back and I believe I will get goals in the league this season. If I get one soon, who knows how many will come my way? I am just waiting patiently for that first league goal.”

Hearts will open the 2016 Ghana Premier League campaign on Sunday with a home fixture against Edubiase.
