2019/20 GPL: WAFA in 6-1 rout of AshGold [+VIDEO]

WAFA SC romped to a 6-1 match-day 12 win over AshantiGold in the ongoing 2019/20 Ghana Premier League at Sogakope Sunday.

The Academy Boys were in ruthless mood against the Miners who prior to the game, were top of the 18-team league table.

Defender Konadu Yiadom, in a man-of-the-match performance, bagged a brace with Andrews Ntim, Ibrahim Abukari, Daniel Owusu and Haruna Jalilu Mola adding to WAFA’s six goals,

Centre-back Konadu Yiadom got WAFA on their way after 27 minutes, heading past goalkeeper Frank Boateng at far post from a corner kick.

Amos Kofi Nkrumah gave the Miners something to cheer about 8 minutes later as he headed in the equalizer from a cross by Kofi Amoah. But that would just stay as a consolation effort.

Andrews Ntim shot WAFA back in front in the 39th minute after being set free inside the AshGold area.

It did not take long for WAFA to score their third goal after recess as Samson Agyapong got whacked down inside the AshGold box. Centre-back Ibrahim Abukari stepped up and converted the penalty by sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-1 after 48 minutes.

WAFA had to wait until the 75th minute to continue their scoring run courtesy Konadu Yiadom who registered his brace with a sweet left-foot strike into the rooftop.

Substitute Daniel Owusu fetched the 5th goal in the 84th minute after being fed by an Eric Asamany pass.

The dreadful day did not end for AshantiGold until debutant Haruna Jalilu Mola completed the rout in stoppage time after Youssoufou Atte laid the ball into his path.

The 6-1 defeat sees AshantiGold drop to 4th position on 21 points while their slayers WAFA climb to 6th with two points behind.
