Burundi midfielder Pierre Kwizera arrives for Kotoko deal

Burundi international Jean Pierrot Kwizera has arrived in Kumasi for a brief observation by Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko.

Fondly called Pierre Kwizera, the 28-year-old is a defensive midfielder with 41 international caps.

He was a member of Burundi’s squad that featured at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Kwizera featured once at the tournament – their 2-0 defeat to Guinea at the group stage.

The Porcupine Warriors are short in numbers in the holding midfield role following the coach Maxwell Konadu-led technical team’s decision to offload subpar Ivorian Alexis Didi Arnaud.

Kotoko only have Justice Blay, a loanee from Medeama SC, bossing that position with no proper cover. The other player to compete with Blay is Richard Senanu but the young midfielder is now recuperating from a knee injury.

Kwizera is available on a free after parting ways with Omani side Al-Oruba Sur.

Should he satisfy the expectations of the Kotoko handlers who have to make a decision before the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League first transfer widow shuts on January 13, he would be handed not more than a three-year contract, Footy-Ghana.com understands.

The Bujumbura-born started his career in 2008 at hometown club AO Bujumbura before joining Ivorian side AFAD Djékanou in 2012.

He was then signed by Tanzanian giants Simba SC in July 2014 where he played for just one year.

Jean Pierrot Kwizera played for Rayon Sports of Rwanda between July 2015 and August 2018 before heading to his last club in Oman.
