2019/20 GPL: Blay registers season’s first goal, slim win for Kotoko

Asante Kotoko’s Justice Blay, on Sunday, emerged the opening goal scorer for the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season.

The midfielder, on loan from Medeama SC, scored the all-important goal with a header to hand the Porcupines a 1-0 victory over Techiman Eleven Wonders at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The goal, which came as early as the second minute, was the fastest among the overall 25 scored on the opening day of the season across nine league centres.

Kotoko created more openings to score but fluffed them while also being denied by Wonders goalkeeper John Moosie and his man-of-the-match performance.

Meanwhile, former Kotoko forward, Yahaya Mohammed also netted the season’s first hat-trick as Aduana Stars thumped Inter Allies 4-0 at Dormaa.

There was also a brace by Emmanuel Ocran – the former Wa All Stars attacker who made his return to the domestic game with Dreams FC. His two goals helped the Still Believe side beat King Faisal 4-1 at Dawu Park.

Of the 25 opening day goals, 17 were scored by home teams and 8 by the visiting teams while nine came through in the first half.
