U-turn: Kotoko recall out-of-contract Augustine Sefah

Defender Augustine Sefah is back with Asante Kotoko, few weeks after the club refused to extend his contract.

The experienced right-back – who joined the Porcupines in 2017 on a free transfer – had his deal expiring this December before management of the club called him into a meeting to declare their stance on letting him go.

But just before returnee coach Maxwell Konadu assumed duties officially, Sefah has been recalled to the team.

Footy-Ghana.com can confirm that the management of Kotoko decided to beat a retreat in order to allow coach Konadu to decide Sefah’s fate.

The well-travelled defender (locally) will thus be joining the team at their Adako-Jachie Training Complex, same day Konadu is being unveiled.

Signalling his return, Sefah – who was close to signing for newly-promoted Ghana Premier League side King Faisal FC – was involved in a team meeting with Maxwell Konadu at Sports Hotel earlier this morning.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jordan Opoku was not recalled with club sources telling Footy-Ghana.com giving strong hints that his utterances post the decision to let him leave the club at the end of his contract affected his chances of being handed another chance to be observed by coach Maxwell Konadu.

Asante Kotoko are preparing for the 2019 President’s Cup replay against Hearts of Oak on Sunday and the Premier League which commences on December 28.
