U-23 Afcon: Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire in first battle for Olympic Games spot

Ghana’s Black Meteors will face cross-border neighbours Cote d’Ivoire in the first semifinals fixture of the 2019 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

On 4 points, Ghana placed second in Group A while the Ivorians topped Group B six points to set up this encounter.

The match is scheduled for 15:00 GMT kickoff at Al Salam Stadium on Tuesday, November 19.

Winner of the Ghana-Cote d’Ivoire tie secures automatic qualification to the men’s football tournament at the 2020 Olympic Games set for Tokyo next summer.

The loser still has an opportunity to battle for Africa’s last slot in the third-place playoff.

2019 U-23 Afcon hosts Egypt will also take on South Africa in the second semifinal. The match is scheduled for the Cairo International Stadium also on Tuesday. Kickoff is 18:00 GMT.
