Afcon 2021Q: Injury blow as Afful pulls out of Ghana squad

Defender Harrison Afful has withdrawn from Ghana’s squad for the double 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.

The Columbus Crew right-back, 34, was set for a return to the Black Stars team after failing to recover in time from a broken jaw njury for the 2019 Afcon held in Egypt last summer.

While Afful looked set for his comeback after being named in coach Kwasi Appiah’s 23-man squad, a fresh injury setback has kept him put once more.

Footy-Ghana is informed that the Black Stars handlers are considering a replacement for Afful preferably a local player

Ghana is scheduled to host South Africa’s Bafana Bafana at Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Thursday,  November 14. The Black Stars then travel to face Sao Tome and Principe in their second game in Group C of the qualifiers four days later.
