Ghana has won her first-ever major Beach Soccer title – Copa Lagos 2019 – through Keta-based Sunset Sports BSC.
Sunset Sports edged Gidi Sharks 5-3 in their final match on Sunday to earn their crown as champions of the 3-day Club Challenge.
The feat is even more astonishing because there has been no competitive beach soccer league in Ghana for over a year.
However, the three-time Ghanaian club champions relied on a blend of experience from key national team players and a few raw talents to upset their more fancied Nigerian opponents.
A new tournament total of 23 goals by a team was recorded by the Ghanaians as they won all their games in spectacular style.
Keta Sunset Sports beat Kebbi Sharks 3-1 on penalties after drawing 4-4 in regular time on opening day Friday, then secured a record 15-3 win over Pepsi Academy also on Saturday.
