U-23 Afcon: Ghana name final squad for Olympics qualifying tourney

Ghana coach, Ibrahim Tanko has finalized his squad of 21 players for the 2019 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

The Black Meteors are making their debut in the 4th edition of the competition which serves as a qualifier to the Olympic Games.

Ghana’s squad is constituted by 12 foreign-based players while nine ply their trades back home.

The team is expected to depart Accra for Cairo Monday, November 4.

Ghana, who are placed in Group A, open their campaign against Cameroon on November 8, face hosts Egypt and then Mali on the 11th and 14th respectively.

The Black Meteors have been handed a target of breaking a 15-year Olympics qualification jinx after last making such an outing at Athens 2004. To do that, they must place among the top three teams at the end of the November 8-22 tournament.

The Olympic Games returns summer 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.
