Ghana’s hopes of competing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics women’s football tournament got dashed after losing 1-0 on aggregate to Kenya Tuesday afternoon.
The Black Queens had settled for a barren draw in the first leg played in Accra on Friday and needed to avoid defeat by at least scoring in a tightly contested game at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The second leg travelled beyond 90 minutes and was only decided after extra-time.
Midfielder Juliet Acheampong gave away a penalty by handling a goal-bound header in the box.
And substitute Genitrix Shikangwa made no mistake by scoring the all-important goal in the 99th minute from the penalty spot.
Harambee Starlets held on for the final 21 minutes to edge out the Black Queens with a 1-0 scoreline.
Kenya will likely face Zambia next in the penultimate stage.
