Wafu Cup: Ghana to face Cote d’Ivoire in semis

Cote d’Ivoire booked a 2019 Wafu Cup of Nations semifinal showdown with Ghana after edging Togo on penalties Saturday night.

The quarterfinal clash between the Francophone countries ended goalless after 90 minutes. In the penalty shoot-out, Togo captain Akate Gnama missed while Amekoudi Dodji saw his attempt saved with the Elephants going on to win 4-2.

The Ivorians will now come up against holders Ghana who also eliminated neighbours Burkina Faso via penalty shootouts on Friday.

The Ghana-Cote d’Ivoire semifinal tie in the Cup competition is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9 at Stade Lat Dior in Thiès.

In related news, hosts Senegal are also in the semifinals after beating Benin 1-0. They next play the winner of the match between Mali and Sierra Leone in the first semifinals of the Cup competition on October 8.
