André Ayew’s league goal has been coming – Swansea boss

Swansea City manager, Steve Cooper said André Ayew’s first league goal of the season had been coming as the Ghana national team captain scored the winner at Charlton Wednesday night.

Ayew had netted a double against Northampton in the Carabao Cup, but was yet to score a league goal for the Swans since a strike against Manchester City in May 2016.

But he ended that wait at The Valley, reacting first to reach Joe Rodon’s knockdown from a Matt Grimes corner to seal a 2-1 win that sent Swansea top of the English Championship.

And head coach Cooper was delighted for the 29-year-old.

“André is playing well, I have to say,” said Cooper.

“I thought he was good against Reading and I know he was disappointed not to score with the chance he had, and the one the week before at Bristol City.

“I just told him, ‘they are coming mate, you just need the first one’.

“So, with him scoring tonight, hopefully he will not think about that and move forward.

“I thought all the forward players were good. Borja works so hard for the goals he scores, Yan Dhanda took his opportunity and Bersant Celina – like André – was a real threat all night.

“I was really pleased with us at the top of the pitch, we looked dangerous. André was a really good example of that.”
