New GFA Statutes: I’m not happy about RFAs quota on ExCo – Yankah

Chairman of the Western Regional Football Association, Kojo Yankah has expressed disappointment over the reduction of the representation of regional football chiefs on the revised membership of the Executive Council for the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Thursday’s Extraordinary Congress, which sought GFA members to adopt draft statutes by the Normalization Committee, saw the RFAs quota of 10 slashed to 2 on the newly-approved 12-member Executive Council.

Previously, each elected RFA Chairman gained an automatic slot onto the then 23-member Executive Committee (now Council) of the GFA.

Yankah initially posited on the floor of Congress that the regions supervise more clubs from the various levels and so should progressively maintain their representation on the Executive Council rather than being heavily slashed. Adancing his argument, he stated that each RFA Chairman was able to advance the challenges from the regions better at the Executive Council level than being represented by a few people.

“Actually, I’m not happy because of the reduction of the RFAs membership at the Executive Council. I’m not happy but we want Ghana football to rest,” he told the media after the Congress.

“Yea, I’m cool. At least the Board of Directors have been changed to Executive Council. …..and some of the petty things we proposed they’ve agreed to change them.

“They’ve promised us a date for the elections and we hope they maintain it because we need our president and Executive Council members.”

The Dr. Kofi Amoah-led Normalization Committee have the rest of September to conduct elections for key executive positions and a new GFA leadership. They could get some extension for a few more weeks to do so.
