2019/20 Caf CC: AshantiGold paired with Akonangui FC

AshantiGold have been drawn against Equatoguinean Cup winners Akonangui Fútbol Club in the preliminary round of the 2019/20 Caf Confederation Cup.

The Miners, who qualified for the competition by winning Tier-Two of the Normalization Special Cup, will be hoping to go all the way to the group stage and possibly challenge for the title.

But they will have to successfully clear three stages – preliminary round, first round and play-offs – to realize a group stage dream.

AshantiGold first travel to face the Ebebiyín-based club on the weekend off August 9-11 before hosting the second leg at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi a fortnight later.

The winner on aggregate will face Morocco’s RS Berkane in a two-legged tie scheduled for September.

The play-offs, which will see some clubs drop from the Caf Champions League to compete for a spot in the group stage of the Confederation Cup, will come off in October and November. A draw to determine the pairings is to be held October 9.
