Celta is an ambitious club in the best league – Aidoo

New Celta Vigo signing Joseph Aidoo says his love for ‘proper’ football informed his decision to sign for an “ambitious club” in what he considers the best league in the world.

The 23-year-old Ghana international joined Celta from Belgian champions KRC Genk on Thursday and was officially presented to the club’s fans and media Friday evening.

In his first press briefing, Aidoo, the central defender best known for his energy and aggressive display, said: “I know Celta is an ambitious club and I’m an ambitious guy [aiming] to achieve a goal. That’s why I chose Celta.”

“To me, people who love football [know] Spanish LaLiga is the best in the world and any footballer who loves that will prefer to play here.

“I’m here to help the team achieve its aim,” he added.

His arrival, now clarified to be on a four-year deal, will see him at Celta until June 2023 but the club have an option of a further year.

Joseph Aidoo has been given two weeks off for holidays, having just returned from international duty with the Ghana national team at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. He made one appearance, the Black Stars’ 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau at the group stage.

The former Inter Allies captain’s LaLiga debut could come against giants Real Madrid in a 2019/20 season opener.
