PHOTO: Kjetil Zachariassen is new Kotoko coach for three years

Norwegian coach,  Kjetil Zachariassen has taken charge of Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko on a three-year contract, running through to the end of the 2021/22 season .

He replaces CK Akonnor who has been ‘elevated’ to the position of Technical Director  and Head of Technical Team at the club.

It’s a dream come true for Zachariassen who has been angling for the job since he arrived in the country as a scout over the past two years, club sources say.

He came to the limelight when he initially joined AshantiGold as a youth team coach before subsequently getting the head coach job after Serbian Svatislav Tanasijevic was demoted late April.

Zachariassen led the Miners in the final stretch of the Normalization Special Cup and guided the side to win the Tier-Two competition last Sunday.

It is understood that his relationship with AshantiGold was not bound by a contract, hence allowing either party to part ways easily.

Kjetil Zachariassen is expected to officially begin job as Asante Kotoko first team coach from Monday July 8 when the team reconvenes to begin preparations for the 2019/20 Caf Champions League which kick-starts in August.
