Maritzburg not ready to sell Ofori – Club chairman

Maritzburg United boss, Farook Kadionda has emphatically stated the club’s reluctance to part ways with Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori this summer.

According to the club chairman, the Black Stars first-choice shot-stopper, who is reported to be a top target of Orlando Pirates in recent months, has been talked to stay with the Team of Choice at least for one more season.

Ofori was one of the standout performers in Maritzburg United’s survival in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after the just ended 2018/19 season.

“If I can let another player go from the bracket of top performers during our successful season, I will be attracting disaster. We have convinced Ofori to stay at least another season with us before we let him move on,” Kadodia is quoted by Kickoff as saying.

Maritzburg have already lost two star players – Fortune Makaringe and Siphelele Ndlovu – to PSL rivals Orlando Pirates. And this Kadodia stresses is a mark of honouring their promises to players.

“We promised Makaringe and Ndlovu that we will let them go, we honoured that and on Ofori we never got any offer last season.

“He’s not for sale and we don’t intend to sell any of our top players at the moment. We won’t like to let any of those go who helped this team survive relegation.”

Richard Ofori, who joined Martizburg United in summer 2017, will thus be running down his three-year contract with the side should he stay on for the forthcoming 2019/20 Absa Premiership.
