Caf CC: ‘Kotoko key man Gyamfi to miss Hilal game’

Asante Kotoko are being forced to confront their must-win penultimate game in Group C of the 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup against Al-Hilal without Emmanuel Gyamfi after the forward sustained an injury on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors will now be missing their regular wingers at home on March 10 after Maxwell Baakoh was also announced to be out for several weeks as a result of an aggravated shin problem.

Gyamfi received a heavy kick by defender Ben Adama in the right leg just after hitting home Kotoko’s second goal in the 23rd minute of the 3-0 win over Nkana FC, one which the diminutive speedster failed to recover from and forced his substitution by Kwame Boahene.

And head coach CK Akonnor, speaking to OTEC FM Monday night, admitted Gyamfi’s injury “doesn’t look good” though he is set to receive for a medical report.

“By tomorrow [Tuesday], I will get a report but it doesn’t look good,” he stated.

“Yes [it is highly likely he wouldn’t be available against Hilal] and we have started already [thinking about his ultimate replacement for Sunday],” Akonnor added.

Midfielder Richard Senanu has also been out of the last two games after picking up two ligament tears at two sides of his right knee in their match-day two win over ZESCO United in February.

Asante Kotoko – second with six points from four games – will host the Sudanese giants who top Group C with seven, at 16:00 GMT this Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. A win brightens their chances of reaching the quarterfinals of the competition.
