Accra to host Black Stars, Meteors double-header Afcon qualifiers

Come March 23, it will be two games, one venue – Accra Stadium – for the Black Stars and Black Meteors when they host Kenya and Gabon in their respective Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the GFA Normalization Committee has announced.

Ghana’s Black Meteors will kick off the day at the refurbished 40,000-seater stadium with the first game against their Gabonese counterparts at 15:00 GMT – a 2019 U-23 Afcon second round first leg encounter.

The senior national team, the Black Stars come next at 18:00 GMT for their final match in Group F of the 2019 Afcon against Kenya’s Harambee Stars. It will be the first game in the Ghanaian capital for Coach Kwasi Appiah’s men since March 2016 when they defeated Mozambique 3-1 in a 2017 Afcon qualifier.

Confirming the approval of this double-header by the Confederation of African Football (Caf), the Normalization Committee for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) wrote:

“With international football focused in Kumasi due to Asante Kotoko’s continues involvement in the Caf Confederations Cup, fans in the capital will have the opportunity of enjoying a great soccer fiesta on a single day.

“The GFA will communicate further plans to make this day an exciting, memorable experience for football fans,” read parts of an announcement on the GFA website.
