Caf CC: Annan credits determination for Kotoko win

Asante Kotoko shot-stopper, Felix Annan has attributed victory against Coton Sport FC de Garoua to hard work and the level of confidence head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has brought to the team.

Kotoko snatched an impressive 3-2 victory away against the Cameroonians in the 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup playoffs first leg to brighten chances of making it to the group stage of the competition for the third time since the maiden edition in 2002-2003 season.

Emmanuel Gyamfi, Maxwell Baakoh and Abdul Fatawu Safiu registered their names on the scorecard for Asante Kotoko against Coton Sport in that pulsating five-goal thriller.

Despite their wastefulness upfront, the Porcupines managed to salvage a respectable victory rendering the second leg, to be played at Baba Yara Sports Stadium, highly improbable for Coton Sport.

Speaking to Metro FM after the encounter, goalkeeper Felix Annan quipped that the team have worked very hard to achieve those results.

“We beat Coton Sport not because they were weak but we were determined and worked hard. Coton Sport and Kariobangi Sharks are equally good sides but we worked hard.

“We won in Cameroon, but it’s not over so we won’t be complacent in the second leg. We are determined to do well in this year’s Competition,” he said.

Annan added that head coach Charles Akonnor has vested some level of confidence in the team that is the reason for the successes being achieved in the Confederation Cup.

“The confidence coach C.K Akonnor has brought into the team is massive and that is working for us.

Asante Kotoko will welcome Coton Sport in Kumasi for the second leg on Sunday, January 20.
