U-17 WWC: ‘Maidens ready for Mexico,’ declares Adotey

Ghana’s U-17 female national team coach, Evans Augustine Adotey has indicated that his outfit has had adequate preparation ahead of Sunday’s quarterfinals clash against Mexico.

The Black Maidens, who topped Group A, will face Group B runners-up Mexico in the last 8 finals of the ongoing 2018 Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup at Estadio Charrúa, Montevideo Sunday night.

Adotey’s charges scored hundred per cent at the group stage and would be hoping to add the Central America side to their casualties.

Speaking ahead of the game, Adotey tells the press that he has gotten much information about his opponents and would therefore map up a strategy to oust them.

“Actually, scoring as many as ten goals against one and claiming 9 points in three games is a remarkable achievement for Ghana. I’m proud of myself, my ladies, the other technical members as well as Ghana but this isn’t the ultimate, we’ve a big game to play on Sunday against Mexico.

“We’re at the knockout stage, so we need to put those victories behind us and focus on Sunday’s game. I’ve gotten three tapes of the Mexicans. I’m observing them to see their strengths and weaknesses in order to map a strategy to counter them to make sure that we go pass them on Sunday.

He says his players are delighted for the success chalked so far but are still focused to win Sunday’s crucial game against Mexico.

“They feel better because after the game I heard them crosschecking the previous results, talking of the group stage. They realized they’ve scored a hundred per cent mark compared to the previous competition, so feel happy and personally I’m happy for them.

“In Costa Rica and Jordan, we got to the knockout stage and we were edged out. This time round I thank God for bringing us this far. We’re just waiting for the opportunity on Sunday to cross that carpet and that’s a major task for me.”

The game will kick off at 19:00 GMT Sunday.
