Friendly: Kotoko share spoils with Medeama

Asante Kotoko played out a 1-1 draw with Medeama SC in a friendly at the Sekondi Sports Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

29-shirted Emmanuel Gyamfi coincidentally scored in the 29th minute to put the Porcupine Warriors in the lead. The winger had a good first foot to a well-served pass from Obed Owusu, went past two defenders before driving the ball past goalkeeper Eric Ofori-Antwi.

Moments after restart, newly-signed goalkeeper Muntari Tagoe was called to action with a timely parry of the ball off a header by Medeama striker Kwame Boateng.

Few minutes to the end of the first half, striker Frederick Boateng was served a delightful opportunity after Goalkeeper Ofori-Antwi failed to gather the ball but the attacker, in an attempt to shoot, took a heavy slip.

The second half saw Kotoko pushing to double their lead while Medeama opted to work all the way from the back via the promptings of Justice Blay.

Midfielder Kwasi Donsu, on a number of occasions, tried his luck from the set piece but his efforts offered less trouble to the Kotoko shot-stopper.

Right-back Amos Korankye, with his trademark long throwing, forced one or two chances for Medeama but the centre-back pair of Abdul Wahab and Ismael Ganiyu won’t see that as a trouble.

With just the addition minutes to play for, Rashid Nortey slid through to ensure Medeama snatched a late equalizer to end the game 1-1.

Asante Kotoko, who are on a 10-day training camp in the Western region ahead of their 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup campaign, will end the exercise on Friday. They next face Togo’s Gomido FC in another high-profile friendly in Kumasi on Sunday, November 18.
