U-17 WWC: Adotey not surprised by Mukarama Abdulai impact

Ghana captain Mukarama Abdulai’s opening day form at the 2018 Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup has come as no surprise to team coach Evans Adotey.

The 16-year-old came to the tournament with the reputation of an unerring knack for banging in the goals after hitting twelve in four qualifying matches.

However, few expected her to hit the ground running just like the team as they thrashed tournament hosts Uruguay 5-0 to go top of Group A Tuesday night.

But for her casual posturing in some big moments in the game, Abdulai could have doubled the hat-trick she registered for the Maidens.

Commenting on the striker’s impact on the game, the experienced coach Adotey said:

“I knew already that she [Mukarama Abdulai] was going to be the best player; I was only telling her to make sure she banged in the goals. Lo and behold, she was able to score three for Ghana.”

Mukarama Abdulai was named player of the match at Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo.
