Kwadwo Asamoah has pulled out of Ghana’s squad for their penultimate group against Ethiopia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying with a knee problem.
The Inter Milan midfielder/left-back will not be replaced.
Members of the Black Stars technical team and remaining 19 players called up are meeting in Kenyan capital Nairobi for a training camp ahead of the November 18 clash in Addis Ababa.
Asamoah “suffered a swollen knee” after featuring in Inter Milan’s shock defeat to Atalanta in the Serie A on Sunday, according to a Ghana FA statement.
“According to officials of Inter Milan, Asamoah’s condition has been intermittent and there is the need to seek urgent medical attention.
“Coach Kwasi Appiah will not alter his squad. The Black Stars thus travels to Kenya for camping with a 19-man squad.
“The team begins camping in Kenya on November 12, 2018. The Normalization Committee wishes Kwadwo Asamoah a speedy recovery,” read parts of the statement.
The 29-year-old only returned from a self-imposed break from international duty in September and featured in the 1-0 loss to Kenya in Nairobi.
Asamoah was in the Black Stars squad for the doubleheader games with Sierra Leone last month. He was excused from featuring in the friendly against Asante Kotoko following the official cancellation of the Sierra Leone fixture by Fifa and Caf.
