Donyoh 2021: Ghana striker renews Nordsjælland stay

Ghana forward Godsway Donyoh has renewed his FC Nordsjælland contract by two more seasons.

His deal was set to expire next summer, but the 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a fresh contract which will run to 2021.

“Ghanaian striker Godsway Donyoh has chosen to extend his contract with the club (FC Nordsjaelland), which otherwise ran out after this season. He is now on contract until 2021,” the club announced Wednesday.

Donyoh has been with the Danish Superliga side since 2016 when he arrived from parent side Right to Dream Academy based in Ghana. He has so far tallied 23 goals in 57 appearances for Nordsjaelland.

Rise and rise

After graduating from the Right to Dream Academy in 2013, Godsway was signed by Manchester City before spending two seasons on loan in Sweden at Djurgardens and Falkenbergs. After making a total of 49 appearances and scoring 8 goals, Donyoh was transferred to Nordsjælland where he soon broke into the first team.

Godsway Donyoh had a very strong first season at FCN, scoring 9 goals and registering 4 assists in the league to help the team finish in fifth position.

Establishing himself as a firm fan favourite, Donyoh’s performances in Denmark attracted attention from the Ghana National Team with Black Stars coach Avram Grant and his successor Kwasi Appiah both inviting him to train with the senior squad. In May 2017, Donyoh received his first senior call-up for the squad to face Ethiopia but was unfortunate to miss out due to an injury which kept him out for seven months.
