Umar Basiru: Kotoko sign WAFA midfielder

Asante Kotoko have landed the services of young midfielder Umar Basiru from WAFA SC, Footy-Ghana.com has confirmed.

The lanky 21-year-old captained WAFA in the first round of the truncated 2017/18 Ghana Premier League and won  a number of man-of-the-match awards.

“Yes, we have released him [Umar Basiru] to them [Kotoko]. It’s a straight deal,” Operations Manager of WAFA, George Ofosuhene briefly told footy-Ghana.com on Wednesday.

Basiru, who was a player of the month nominee for April, is expected to sign a minimum three-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors.

He comes as a perfect alternative for Ivorian Jean Ourega Vital who the Porcupine Warriors failed to sign on Tuesday.

Umar Basiru is comfortable in central midfield role and can also slot in at central defence.
