Partey nets in Atleti win over Huesca

Thomas Partey registered his first goal of the season as Atletico Madrid strolled to a 3-0 home victory over Huesca in the Spanish LaLiga.

The Ghana midfielder put up a man-of-the-match performance on his return to Diego Simeone’s starting line-up at the Wanda Metropolitano Tuesday night.

Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring early in the first half with Partey doubling the lead just before the half-hour mark. He collected the ball 30 yards out and without a challenge, shuffled forward, before unleashing low into the bottom corner.

Four minutes later, it became 3-0. Koke’s clipped ball over the top evaded both Correa’s foot and the distracted goalkeeper Axel Werner on its way into the net. Initially ruled out for offside, the Video Assistant Referee showed Correa was level and the goal stood.

Partey ‘cries’ for game time

The 25-year-old was all tears as he celebrated his first goal of the campaign after being handed a rare start.

Speaking after the game, Partey said: “I try to take advantage of any time that Simeone gives me.

“I know that the more I work, the more opportunities I will have, so I’m going to keep it up and keep working.

“I’m a player who likes to play anywhere and get into my opponents’ area to try to get a goal.”

The victory sees Atleti climb to third ahead of Saturday’s city derby against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
