Again, Kotoko whip Hearts 2-0

Asante Kotoko beat arch-rivals Hearts of Oak for the second time in a week, climaxing their 83rd anniversary celebrations in style on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors returned to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium with a repeat dose of what happened in the first leg of their friendly – 2-0 – but this time with different scorers.

Hearts proved the better side in the first half.

After the break, Kotoko coach Paa Kwesi Fabin somewhat found his way around the Phobians tactics with the introduction of fit-again speedy winger and striker Obed Owusu who went on to prove as impact subs.

Obed Owusu broke the deadlock in the 69th minute after the Hearts goalkeeper blocked Gyamfi’s shot.

And seven minutes from time, Kotoko made it 2-0 with a quick counterattack after the referee ignored a penalty call by Hearts. Stephen Nyarko found Gyamfi who beat his marker before slotting home.

Asante Kotoko, with a 4-0 aggregate win, received a glittering trophy and a cash price of GHS10,000.

The two sides are expected to face off again in a ceremonial match in celebration of the 80th birthday former Ghana President John Agyekum Kuffour later in October. A proposed 4-team invitational tournament involving both Kotoko and Hearts as well as Nigerian clubs is also on the cards.
