I got sacked before responding to management – Akonnor

Former Ashanti Gold Head Coach C.K. Akonnor has explained circumstances behind his dismissal at the Obuasi based club.

The 42-year-old gaffer says he received the information of his sack even before he submitted his query letter to the club.

The Miners management queried C.K. Akonnor to present his reason for failing to report to training when the team resumed preparation for the second round of the league on June 21.

Given 48-hours to respond to the query, the coach asserts that he answered within 24-hours.

“They gave me a letter on Monday asking me to respond  within 48 hours. The next day which is Tuesday, I gave them the letter explaining why I was not present at training,” Akonnor told Ashh FM.

“On that day that I gave the letter to him (Frederick Acheampong), I was shocked to know that our technical men have all been served letters of my dismissal. They (technical team) called to draw my attention to what was happening and I had no option than to accept,” he concluded.

The club’s technical director John Cristiansen has been asked to take over first team duties.

Under Akonnor, Ashanti Gold escaped the claws of relegation after a poor start in the 2016/17 league and now lie second on the ZylofonCash Premier League log after the first round of games this season.
