#Number12: Nyantakyi denies wrongdoing, feels ‘scammed’

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kwesi Nyantakyi insists his resignation is “not an admission of wrongdoing for issues” in the recently aired investigative report of Tiger Eye PI titled #Number12.

Nyantakyi, who is now under investigation and serving a provisional Fifa ban as a result of the revelations in the audio-visual documentary, mentioned he was deceived by “scammers” as he tendered in his resignation as president of the Ghana Football Association on Friday.

He was caught on tape allegedly outlining the process involved in setting up an agency, Namax, which would broker a $15 million sponsorship deal for the Ghana Premier League with an expected 20-25% Commission to be shared between himself, a representative of the supposed investors and the Northern Regional FA boss, Abdulai Alhassan.

But despite what appears a plan to skin his own football association, Nyantakyi, who also serves as the first Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (Caf), says he is not admitting to any guilt.

“I wish to apologise to my family, work colleagues, friends, associates and the people of Ghana for the disappointment my indiscretion has caused them.

“This is by no means an admission of wrongdoing for issues on the video,” parts of the letter read.

Meanwhile, Fifa’s Ethics Committee has been served a petition by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, the undercover journalist who masterminded a sting operation into “perceived corruption of Mr. Nyantakyi.”

In the said request, Anas has outlined why Kwesi Nyantakyi should be banned for life from taking part in any football-related activity.
