Kotoko’s Yacouba Songnè collapsed before Bechem clash

Asante Kotoko striker Yacouba Songnè had to be ruled out of Sunday’s game against Bechem United after passing out few hours before the matchday 12 clash.

Eyebrows were raised when the Burkina Faso international’s name did not appear on the team list of the Porcupines after his impressive outings against Hearts and Karela United.

But an explanation from the Kotoko fold has revealed the former Stade Malien attacker, who scored in his last game, fainted in camp while the team was having breakfast.

Yacouba underwent emergency medical treatment and was rushed to hospital.

He has since regained consciousness but the club’s medics will be monitoring his condition ahead of their next game.

Yacouba Songnè watched the game from the stands as Asante Kotoko went on to beat Bechem United 1-0 at Cape Coast Stadium later in the evening. Winger Emmanuel Gyamfi bagged the goal in the 71st minute.

The Porcupine Warriors next host Elmina Sharks at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, May 13.
