Medeama beat 10-man AshGold with late penalty

Kwasi Donsu converted an injury-time penalty as Medeama beat leaders AshantiGold 2-1 at home on matchday 10 of the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League Saturday.

The Miners, with 10 men, looked to have done enough to snatch a point from the T&A Park in Tarkwa until referee Charles Bulu awarded the hosts a contentious penalty which got converted by midfielder and captain on the day Donsu.

Justice Blay first put the Yellow and Mauves in the lead as he headed home a cross from right-back Amos Korankye in the 17th minute.

But the lead was short-lived by Ivorian Richard Ela Djodi for the Miners in the 29th minute.

AshGold were soon reduced to 10 men after Shafiu Mumuni was penalized for a tackle. It earned him a second yellow card before the break and an ultimate dismissal from the game.

AshGold remain top of the log despite the defeat but Medeama climb to third spot on 16 points – just one behind the Miners.
