John Christiansen: New AshGold Technical Director eyes improved season

New AshantiGold Technical Director, John Christiansen is confident the strong bond he is already building with head coach CK Akonnor will propel the team to better heights than last season.

The Miners battled to survive the Ghana Premier League last term and had to bring in Akonnor, their ex-player, on a rescue mission.

With a takeover of the AshantiGold management by new investors, the club’s technical department was further bolstered with the arrival of Christiansen who holds a UEFA License ‘A’ coaching certificate and trains coaches for the Danish FA.

“My relationship with C K Akonnor is fantastic – we both know our responsibilities.

“As a Technical director, I need to help my coach rectify mistakes I’m every game we play for example against Wa All Stars, our first half was better than the second half which we have discussed as a technical team.

“We will work very hard so what happened to AshantiGold last year will not happen again,” Christiansen told Oyerepa FM.

He went on to reveal some plans for the future.

“We are looking at setting up academies in Obuasi and Kumasi. I want to bring out a world class player from Obuasi.”

After winning their season opener – 1-0 over Wa All Stars, AshantiGold are on the road on matchday 2 of the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League. They face Hearts of Oak at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday.
